A winner has been announced in New to TV’s Royal Pain Giveaway!

USA launched the premiere of Royal Pains, the network’s newest original scripted series, on Thursday, June 4 at 10/9c. Royal Pains stars Mark Feuerstein as Hank Lawson, a young E.R. doctor who, after being wrongly blamed for a patient’s death, moves to the Hamptons and becomes the reluctant “doctor for hire” to the rich and famous. Five clips for new show 10 Things I Hate About You
July 2, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
ABC Family is bringing the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You from the movie to the small screen with its new show set to debut Tuesday at 7 p.m. CST.
From watching the five clips below, the show really pulled me in. A lot of it is because of my love of Larry Miller’s comedic skills. Miller plays single dad and OB/GYM Walter Stratford who moves from Ohio to Southern California with his two teenage daughters Kat and Bianca. What makes it extra special is that Miller played the same role in the movie!
Walter is overprotective and is so funny in some of these clips as he tells them, “It’s the first day of school, don’t get pregnant” and “boys just want to put a baby in you.”
Kat (Lindsey Shaw) is a feminist with a sharp tongue (played by Julia Stiles in the movie) who is smart and cares very little about the world of high school and fitting in. She’s in no hurry to date, which works in her father’s favor.
That’s the totally opposite of her pretty blonde-headed sister Bianca (Meaghan Martin, Camp Rock) who is a social butterfly ready to strategize her way up the social ladder as fast as she can. But dad says she can’t date until her sister does, and that doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon.
There’s also the Heath Ledger character Patrick Verona, played by Gregory Peck’s grandson Ethan Peck. His deep voice in the last clip really does bring that dark brooding, mysterious character to life. According to what I’ve read, he won’t have many lines in the first few episodes, though he will be talked about plenty.
Also on the cast is Chastity Church (Dana Davis, Heroes) who plays the head cheerleader and queen of popularity, and Cameron (Nicholas Braun), the “nice guy finishes last’ who falls fast for Bianca.
Here are a few more clips:

The Fashion Show “It’s in the Cards” 1.9 spoilers
July 1, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
There are only six designers left on The Fashion Show competition as they go into the ninth episode, “It’s In the Cards,” scheduled to air at 10 p.m. ET/PT Thursday on Bravo.

In this episode, the remaining designers (Rico, Daniella, Anna, Johnny, Merlin and James-Paul) are challenged to create loungewear to compliment designer Fernando Sanchez’s top selling luxury robes. The winning creation will be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and that designer will have an advantage in the elimination round. Personally, I think this part of the competition will be fun. I can’t wait to see their designs.
Fitting for the title of the episode, the contestants are whisked to a Tarot card reader who predicts their future in the competition. They come to find that this experience will have more of an effect on their resulting design than they originally imagined. I wonder what they will have to design though? Rico cracks me up with his comment about going to the psychic reader.
Vivienne Tam will be the guest judge.
As always, the winning design will be available for purchase on BravoTV.com.
If you want some entertaining reading, read The Fashion Show blogs and see what the designers really think.

The Philanthropist on NBC, billionaire playboy turns vigilante do-gooder
June 30, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
In case you didn’t see the premiere of The Philanthropist on NBC last Wednesday, let me fill you in on the show a little bit.
Teddy Rist (James Purefoy, Rome) is a billionaire playboy who loves money, women and power yet is still grieving for the loss of his 6-year-old son.
When a business trip to Nigeria turns into a life or death experience due to a severe flood in the Nigerian town he is visiting, Rist’s life is changed when he makes a split decision to save a little Nigerian boy. Going back to his regular high-profile life as a billionaire businessman, he can’t seem to get the vision of the little boy out of his mind, knowing that even though he saved him, he could do more to help the little boy and his village.
Bugging his business partner Phillip Maidstone (Jesse L. Martin, Law & Order) and the head of his charitable foundation, Olivia Maidstone (Neve Campbell) – wife of Phillip, to help him get a special care package out to the village where the little boy lives, Rist realizes he can’t just do what he was doing. He leaves in the middle of an interview to personally take the package to the boy’s Nigerian village.
Of course, that is problematic because in Nigeria things are very political and corrupt. A young Nigerian doctor helps him realize that what the villages need is a vaccine, but doesn’t think he understands what it is going to take to get it to the villages. In the beginning, Rist thinks his money and power can get him everywhere he wants to go, but it ends up being harder than he thinks. Getting shot at, snake bit and losing his shoes in the middle of the jungle, Rist is forced to use his heart and brain instead of his wallet and name. You can watch the full episode online here on NBC.com
For this Wednesday’s episode, 1.2 “Myanmar,” his company
Maidstone-Rist is outed by a human rights organization as having ties to business in Myanmar, also known as Burma, where there is oil and gas exploration using forced labour. Teddy decides the only way to conclude whether to continue their business activities in the country is to get moral advice from Daw May Lin Wai, a revered Burmese democratic leader who has been under house arrest in the country for nearly two decades. During his search for Lin Wai Teddy meets a young girl, desperately in need of a kidney transplant. The girl’s father is a suitable donor but he’s being kept at a forced labor camp and it is feared that he won’t get to his daughter in time to save her life. Although Teddy succeeds in avoiding the armed guards and breaking in to see Lin Wai, his security man, Dax, is arrested in the process. Back in New York, Philip and Olivia desperately try to explain it to his stockholders.
For Rist, the loss of his son a year ago has taken the joy out of life. But through his new found mission in life, he feels alive again. Doing good for people who can’t help themselves makes him feel alive, like a person again.
The cast also includes Lindy Booth (The 4400) as his assistant AJ who is forced to follow him around the world; Dax (Michael Kenneth Williams, The Wire) as his security man and driver; and Krista Allen (The Starter Wife) as his former wife Julia Rist. While Julia is ready to go on with her life, beginning to repaint her son’s room, her ex-husband is no where close to being ready.
Also, Rist and Olivia have a brief past together, but she moved on to his best friend, finding the “perfect” marriage and relationship that Rist probably is a little jealous of. Olivia has a calming effect on him, while Phillip serves as the man holding the business together so Rist can do what he believes he must do. But together their friendship keeps him grounded and is one of the only things in the world he holds a great deal of passion for.
The Philanthropist was filmed in South Africa, Mozambique and Prague, which makes the show pretty unique and realistic, touching on very serious subjects around the world, such as an illegal sex-trafficking ring.
The Philanthropist airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesdays on NBC.

Secret Life of the American Teenager spoilers 2.2 “What’s Done is Done”
June 29, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
In an all-new Secret Life of the American Teenager episode tonight, 2.2 "What’s Done is Done," everyone will be dealing with the death of Grace’s dad Marshall (John Scheider).
Grace (Megan Park) is taking her father’s dad very hard, which is understandable on many levels. She’s taking it extra hard because she didn’t want to tell her dad goodbye on the phone before his plane took off. From the clips I’ve seen, Grace thinks it is her fault that her dad died because she chose to have sex with Jack (Greg Finley) and he knew she was going to do it.
In the clip below, we can see that Adrian (Francia Raisa) tries to talk to Grace, but she doesn’t want to listen to anyone:
I really feel sorry for Grace’s mom Kathleen (Josie Bissett) because she is dealing with her own grief as well as the grief of her two teenage children, Grace and Tom (Luke Zimmerman). Tom is not only blaming Grace right now, but Adrian as well, because it was her influence that led to her having sex.
Meanwhile, it seems Amy (Shailene Woodley) and Ben (Ken Baumann) are having relationship problems. And Amy’s mom Anne (Molly Ringwald) has to face the fact that she is pregnant.
It should make for an interesting episode. I just hope they don’t go overboard on Grace’s whole “it’s my fault because I had sex” storyline.
I like that at the end of the first episode last week, that instead of just using Shailene Woodley for their public service announcement about preventing teen pregnancy, they used the entire cast. Daren Kagasoff (who plays Ricky) was very convincing and provides a male’s point of view. Here’s one more clip:
In Plain Sight "Miles to Go" episode on tonight
June 28, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
After briefing a new witness, whose testimony is contingent on visitation rights with his son, U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) learns the son is missing and sets out to find him in an all new episode of In Plain Sight, "Miles to Go."
I can tell from watching the clip below, that Mary really hates it when potential witnesses don’t realize they are in the Witness Security Program for the long haul. But they just don’t get it sometimes.
The episode will air at 9 p.m. today (Sunday, June 28) on USA Network.
Here’s a few clips:
And Stan and Eleanor are about to be found out by Mary and Marshall. That should be funny:True Blood 2.3 “Scratches” spoilers
June 28, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
It’s Sunday again! You know what that means! It’s True Blood time!
Here’s the official description for True Blood episode 2.3 “Scratches,” set to air on HBO at 8 p.m. CST tonight:
“When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Ericʼs
(Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her. At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sectʼs anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises. After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotteʼs, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.”
Tonight’s episode is going to be good. We have Sookie’s attack with a strange creature, the fate of LaFayette (last time we saw him the vampires were about to do something), Sam’s anger at Sookie and the strange Maryann events.
Personally, I’m curious what Bill did at Jessica’s parents’ house. Does he kill them, glamour them? I’m not sure. And what is Jason going to do in this episode? Sleep with the girl from church camp?
True Blood airs on Sundays at 8 pm. CST on HBO.

The Vampire Diaries Review: You’re gonna love it!
June 27, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
© 2009 The CW Network, LLC. All Rights Reserved
After watching a screener for The CW’s new fall drama The Vampire Diaries, I predict the show will be a hit.
Is it following in the footsteps of Twilight and True Blood? Well, as far as timing, yes. It’s the perfect time for this type of show.
But actually, The Vampire Diaries is based on a series of YA books by L.J. Smith which were written before Stephanie Myer’s Twilight books.
And while there are differences and similarities, mostly the reason they are alike is because of the vampire angle. But I think Twilight fans will like The Vampire Diaries because it has a lot of the same elements and you get to watch it EVERY WEEK! What’s better than that?
The Vampire Diaries centers aroufnd two rival sibling vampires who have come home to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia – Stefan (Paul Wesley, Army Wives, Everwood) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder, Tell Me You Love Me, Smallville) for different reasons. Stefan is the good vampire who now refrains from killing humans for blood. Bad vampire Damon is the exact opposite. When Stefan refers to how he kills people, Damon says “that’s a given.”
By the way, in the first two minutes of The Vampire Diaries, people die, setting a tone that something evil is lurking nearby, something this town hasn’t seen in years.
Both vampire siblings are drawn to popular and dark-haired beauty Elena (Nina Dobrev, Degrassi: The Next Generation), who has a striking resemblance to Katherine, who both brothers at one time loved in the 1800s. Yes, our hot vampires are old!
Making the story interesting is the stage that Elena is in her life. A new school year has started, but she’s having a hard time coping, writing in her diary that she will tell everyone that she’s doing okay, that she’s fine. But inside she’s not.
Her parents died from a recent car accident and those of us who have lost a family or loved one know, you can’t set a time limit on loss. You can’t snap your fingers and be over the grief. It happens when it happens. And for Elena, it hasn’t happened yet. This point is made in the pilot when an English teacher reprimands her for not knowing the history lesson, telling her he’s done giving her a break. Another words, he thinks she has had enough time to deal with her grief. But Stefan comes to the rescue and puts the teacher in his place.
As far as the deep attraction the main characters have to each other, it’s totally there. Though in the first episode, you see that with Stefan and Elena. There’s more mystery to the other brother Damon, as he seems to bring all of the bad with him. That doesn’t set well with Stefan who had wanted to start his life over without his past interfering.
The pilot also is creepy at times with a scary crow that follows Elena. At one point she is in the cemetery visiting her parents’ grave writing in her diary. This place at one time was a soothing environment, but now a crow and a thick fog bring danger in the cemetery.
The Vampire Diaries also has great supporting characters that really makes the show worthwhile. There’s Bonnie (Katerina Graham), Elena’s best friend who may be psychic; Caroline (Candice Accola), the blonde beauty who wants what Elena has; Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Elena’s troubled brother who has turned to drugs and alcohol to fight his grief; Vicki (Kayla Ewell), the kinda slutty girl who Jeremy likes, but she likes Tyler (Michael Trevino), the good-looking jerk; Matt (Zach Roerig), Elena’s jock ex-boyfriend and brother to Vicki; and Zach (Chris William Martin). In addition, there’s Jenna (Sara Canning), aunt to Elena and Jeremy who is in her 20s and attending college while serving as their guardian; and Mr. Tanner (Benjamin Ayres), who pretends to be Stefan’s uncle for school-related purposes, though really Stefan is the uncle.

June 26, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
90210 stars Annalynne McCord, Jessica Stroup and Jessica Lowndes show off their bikini bodies while preparing to film a pool party scene June 25 in Huntington Beach, California.
is Naomi, Stroup is Silver and Lowndes is Adrianna in 90210, which is now filming for its second season. Doesn’t Lowndes look good by the way with her long hair?
Notice Shenae Grimes, who plays Annie, isn’t filming with the three girls. In the season finale of 90210, Annie, who had been drinking after a prom night from hell, hits someone or something with her car.
According to Watch with Kristin on E! Online, when 90210 returns on Tuesday, September 8, the mystery of what or who Annie hit will be “really bad,” McCord told E!. She also said Naomi will try her best to be over Liam (Matt Lanter) and her friendship with Annie, but it will be a struggle (probably more of a struggle to get over Liam I imagine0. Lanter told E! in season two, we will learn more about his family life.
90210 will return in the fall on The CW on Tuesday nights, paired up with the new Melrose Place. 90210 will air at 7 p.m. CST with Melrose Place following at 8 p.m. (Click here for a list of CW premiere dates)
