Watch the first episode of Showtime’s Nurse Jackie now
June 6, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
Don’t miss your opportunity to watch the first episode of Showtime’s new show Nurse Jackie starring Edie Falco. (click this link to watch the episode right now)
The episode is available online to watch right now before its Monday premiere on Showtime at 9:30 p.m. CST. So even if you don’t get Showtime, you can watch this episode and see what you think.
In Nurse Jackie, Edie Falco (Sopranos) is nurse Jackie Peyton - a very complicated character who lies somewhere between saint and sinner. At the hospital, she’s a patient’s best friend. She takes on doctors and hospital bureaucracy without blinking and without holding back. However, she she’s not afraid of red tape and will go around it as much as she can. That’s good and bad. She’ll break a rule to get the result she wants.
On this behind-the-scenes Nurse Jackie video below, one of the producers says didn’t want a nurse who rides shotgun to a hospital, they wanted a hospital that rides shotgun to a nurse. I think that tells the story pretty well.
As far as her flaws, Jackie has many. She has a bad back which has led to an addiction to pain pills.
On the cast with her is trainee nurse Zoey Brakow (Merritt Wever), Dr. Fitch "Coop" Cooper (Peter Facinelli, Twilight), Dr. Elenor O’Hara (Eve Best) who is Jackie’s best friend, hospital pharmacist Eddie (Paul Schulze), hospital administrator Gloria Akalitus (Anne Deveare Smith, The West Wing) and Jackie’s husband Kevin Peyton (Dominic Fumusa). Of course, you won’t realize she’s married until the end, and after what’s in the episode, you’ll be like … WHAT?

United States of Tara "Snow" review
March 30, 2009 by Cheril Vernon
In Sunday’s episode of United States of Tara (Snow, 1.11) on Showtime, Tara (Toni Collette) chose to enter an intense two-week program at a special in-patient facility that deals with dissociation personality disorder.
She does this after overhearing her son Marshall (Kier Gilchrist) complain to his father Max and sister Kate (Brie Lawson) that they "need a bigger boat" so to speak. This of course is after the last episode when Tara’s alter "T" made out with Marshall’s potential boyfriend. When Tara enters the facility, she can’t seem to get her alters to come out for Dr. Holden (Joel Gretsch, The 4400).
Eventually under hypnosis, her alter "Buck" comes out basically as the protector. "Buck" makes it clear to the doctor that the alters will not talk about what caused Tara to have the disorder in the first place.
Racy Secret Life of a Call Girl series starts on Showtime
June 15, 2008 by Cheril Vernon
Coming to Showtime Monday (June 16) is the British import hit Secret Life of a Call Girl, which will debut at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT after the premiere of the fourth season of the network’s highest rated series, Weeds.
Showtime will air the entire first season of eight half-hour (Mature Audience) episodes of the racy and sexy comedy Secret Diary of a Call Girl featuring British actress Billie Piper (Doctor Who) as a high-class independent London call girl.
The series was taken from the best-selling real-life diaries of a call girl with a double life. In her personal life, she is Hannah, a nighttime legal secretary (to her family and friends). To her clients, she is Belle, their ultimate fantasy.
Piper had the opportunity to work closely with the real Belle, who published her diaries in 2005, yet still remains anonymous.
Read here for a Billie Piper interview and series preview. Compared to most of the video clips I’ve found on the Net about the show, this one is the cleanest.
